Learning from animals, with animals, and for all species.

What does a goat do all day in her meadow? Why is chewing cud so deeply relaxing? How do chickens instantly know when one of their friends has found a snack? And why does a horse’s gaze feel like it looks right into your soul?

After a day at Wildes Wir, you’ll know.

In our Life School, we offer hands-on experiences that bring you closer to animals, nature, and yourself. Whether you're part of a school class, a family, a workshop group, or a research team — here, learning is embodied, sensory, and always in relationship.

You’ll meet animals with moving pasts and unique quirks. Some live with disabilities. Some are shy, some curious. They are all teachers in their own way — and we are their interpreters. Our role is to gently guide you into respectful connection, without pressure, without expectation. Just presence.

We explore both the practical and the profound:

From species-appropriate animal care and nature pedagogy, to ethics, self-awareness, and healing through interspecies encounters.

What You Can Experience Together

  • Being With Goats

From distant observation to fleece-on-skin closeness — this is a journey of gentle attention and mutual trust. No forcing, no fixing — just being. You’ll learn a lot about the goat’s way of life, their social intelligence, quirks, and quiet wisdom. It’s as much experience as it is education — and often, the goats do the teaching.

  • Goat Walk

A walk with goats is not a walk in a straight line. It’s a meandering, pausing, nibbling, stopping-to-scratch-your-ear kind of walk. That’s the point. Goats invite us to slow down, to notice the overlooked, to take detours just because the moss looks especially tasty over there. It’s not about the destination — it’s about shared time, curiosity, and the quiet joy of presence.

Coming Summer 2025. Bring sturdy shoes and an open heart.

  • Talk Horse

You don’t need to ride to have a real conversation. Horses speak through breath, ears, hooves, silence — a whole embodied language we’re rarely taught to hear. In this workshop, we learn to slow down and listen. To observe without expectation. To show up without the need to lead. What does curiosity look like in a horse? What does a boundary feel like? Together, we’ll explore how to talk horse — not through domination, but through dialogue. The result? Connection. Mutual trust. And a whole new way of being with another.

  • Nature Pedagogy & School Visits

We welcome school classes and other groups to step into the everyday magic of the sanctuary — where goats nap in the sun, chickens chatter across the yard, and humans learn by watching, listening, and gently participating. Through playful discovery, quiet observation, topic-based discussions and story-sharing, we explore what it really means to live together — not just side by side, but in relationship. What does care look like across species? What can a chicken teach us about courage, or a goat about patience? Here, learning is hands-on, curiosity-led, and rooted in empathy. It's not about answers — it's about questions that grow with us.

  • Roots & Reason: Where Science Gets Its Hands Dirty

Students, researchers, and curious minds are invited to spend time in the barn, the meadow, the forest — asking questions, challenging assumptions, and co-creating knowledge with all species present. Whether you're studying multispecies ethnography, regenerative agriculture, or the philosophy of care, this is your open-air lab.

Want to host a workshop or bring your research team?

  • Wild Plant Walks & Herbal Wisdom

Get to know the edible, medicinal, and mysterious plants growing quietly under your feet. With trained guides, you'll explore the fields and forests, learning what to harvest (and what to avoid), how to use wild herbs safely, and how to reconnect with the quiet wisdom of the land. It's not just about identification — it's about relationship.

  • Birdsong Courses & Ornithological Walks

Can you tell the blackcap from the nightingale? Or the chiffchaff from the song thrush? Join us at dawn or dusk, when the world holds its breath and the birds take the stage. Together, we’ll tune our ears to the language of feathers, learn to identify local species by sound and sight, and experience the landscape as a living, singing tapestry. Whether you're a seasoned birder or just bird-curious — everyone is welcome.

  • Scything Workshop

Step back into the rhythm of the blade and discover the ancient, satisfying art of scything. This quiet, meditative practice connects you deeply to the landscape as you gently shape meadows and fields by hand. Beyond the beauty and tradition, scything is also an ecological choice: while a lawnmower can kill up to 90% of the insects in its path, the scythe’s gentle touch impacts only around 10%. Join us to learn a skill that nurtures both land and life.

  • Vegan Talks & Ethical Dialogues

A welcoming space for open, respectful conversations about food, justice, animal ethics, and climate — where every voice matters. No preaching here, just curiosity, honest questions, and a shared love for good food. Together, we explore complex topics with empathy and openness, breaking bread while deepening understanding. Come ready to listen, learn, and maybe even challenge your own ideas in a supportive community.
